The Thimphu Festival (Tsechu) is one of the grandest of Bhutan’s festivals and attracts the largest audience. Featuring dances performed by trained monks and laymen in amazing masks and costumes, Tsechus (festivals) are one of the best ways to experience the ancient living culture of Bhutan.

A Tsechu is a Buddhist festival in honour of Guru Rimpoche, the saint who brought Buddhism to Bhutan. The Thimphu Tsechu was established by the 4th Temporal Ruler, Tenzing Rabgye (1638-1696) in 1670. This festival also provides a great opportunity to witness locals gathered in their finest Gho’s and Kira’s in a celebration of their culture and faith. This tour also visits sacred sites in Paro, Thimphu and Punakha.

Day 1
Arrive Paro – Thimphu

Tamchog Lhakhang and later evening stroll down the Thimphu city.

Day 2
Thimphu Sightseeing

After breakfast, drive to Tashichhodzong to attend the Thimphu festival. You will see locals dressed in their finest clothes who have walked from miles around to attend the festivities.

After lunch, Buddha Point, National Memorial Chorten, Changangkha Lhakhang, Takin Zoo, Postal Museum and Folk Heritage Museum.

Day 3
Thimphu – Punakha

Dochula pass, Botanical Garden, Chimi Lhakhang & Punakha Dzong.

Day 4
Punakha – Paro

Morning short hike to Khamsum Yella Temple and then drive to Paro Valley. En-route visit Simtokha Dzong and Rimpung Dzong.

Day 5
Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery

Morning hike to Tiger’s Monastery. Afternoon visit Rimpung Dzong and Ta Dzong.

Day 6
Excursion to Chelela Pass

Drive to Chelela pass. Its a two hours drive from Paro. Later on visit Drukgyal Dzong and Kyichu Lhakhang.

Day 7
Depart from Paro

After breakfast, drive towards airport for onward journey.
